I am retired from 30 years of government service, 20 of which were with the Bureau of Land Management. I have been carving with the Central Point woodcarvers for several years. When I started there were only three woodcarvers. There are now approximately 25 carvers of varying ages and skill levels. We share techniques and patterns for interesting things to carve. We have always met on Saturday afternoon at the Central Point Senior Center except for a brief period when we met at the County Library.

I enjoy carving as a hobby and it gives me a source of gifts for friends and relatives. I also enjoy reading, watching videos, television and occasionally riding my bike. Woodcarving is a relaxing hobby. I was recently given a wood burner and need to work on developing my skill at this art. Wood burning can greatly enhance a carving.  Occasionally I am involved with demonstrations to help promote the art and craft of woodcarving. Such places have been schools to generate interest to kids or  weekend shows where we demonstrate to all ages the fun and pleasure that woodcarving can bring to a person.  I strongly recommend woodcarving as a hobby or pastime.
