I retired at the age of 70 in 2010. I was looking for new hobby or craft to keep me busy. I have done several things in the past like needle point, painting, and sewing. I was reading the Central Point Senior Center Newsletter and saw a listing for Woodcarving. I went to the next meeting on Saturday September 18, 2010. I was greeted warmly by the group. Donna talked to me for a while to see what my expectations were. She told me what I would need to get started carving – A desire to carve, a lap board, a safety glove, a beginner’s set of carving tools, basswood carving cutout, and a place to carve.

Donna then handed me a knife and a cutout of a “Do Nothing Rabbit”. I was hooked and have been carving ever since.  I could never have imagined that I would have the enjoyment and satisfaction of carving a piece of wood to create such wonderful pieces.  Of the many styles of carving my favorite is relief.  By joining the Central Point Woodcarvers, I have made many new friends.
